This kitchen had a very special origin story because it was conceived in the hearts and minds of high-school Juniors.
Shelene's son, Blake, and his best friend, Ryan, noticed the obscene amount of money spent on Homecoming Floats at their school. They asked themselves, "What is we just skip the float and build a kitchen in India instead!". They convinced their junior class to "skip the homecoming float" and raised the proceeds to build this kitchen. After the kitchen was built, 10 members of that class had the opportunity to take a mission trip and go see the fruits of their labor and sacrifice come to life!
Skip1 is currently serving about 28 at-risk children at the kitchen in North India. These children are provided with a stable environment and are nourished with three meals a day, seven days a week. The project focused on upgrading the kitchen facilities, including adding new appliances, pots, pans, dishes, and utensils, so the children can consistently receive healthy, home-cooked meals.
