Past Projects

Impact You Can See.

Explore Skip1's past projects from around the world. Each initiative highlights how small acts of generosity have created meaningful, lasting change in communities and the lives of those we serve.

Homeless Initiative

Beyond the Bag

Skip1's Beyond the Bag initiative is an outreach program that equips volunteers to assemble and distribute "GloveBags" - care packages stocked with essentials like socks, hygiene items, and non-perishable food - to people experiencing homelessness.

These GloveBags are intentionally compact so they can be kept in your car or handed out during conversations, fostering not just a practical giving moment, but a genuine, respectful interaction with someone in need. By encouraging people to "skip one thing" in their daily lives and redirecting those resources, Skip1 empowers its community to build meaningful connections and bring dignity to individuals on the streets.

One Glove Bags took an unexpected turn when we met RD. RD was a homeless woman who was caught it a season of difficult life and health circumstances. RD had a regular income by working at Target but was unable to pay the first and last rent to enter into an apartment agreement and get herself off the streets.

Skip1 partnered with RD to pay these upfront costs as well as furnishing the apartment for her (as a surprise!). This was the last day RD spent a night on the streets; she pays her rent every month-- EARLY!

Kitchen in North India

"Skip the Float" Oaks Christian High School Seniors

This kitchen had a very special origin story because it was conceived in the hearts and minds of high-school Juniors.

Shelene's son, Blake, and his best friend, Ryan, noticed the obscene amount of money spent on Homecoming Floats at their school. They asked themselves, "What is we just skip the float and build a kitchen in India instead!". They convinced their junior class to "skip the homecoming float" and raised the proceeds to build this kitchen. After the kitchen was built, 10 members of that class had the opportunity to take a mission trip and go see the fruits of their labor and sacrifice come to life!

Skip1 is currently serving about 28 at-risk children at the kitchen in North India. These children are provided with a stable environment and are nourished with three meals a day, seven days a week. The project focused on upgrading the kitchen facilities, including adding new appliances, pots, pans, dishes, and utensils, so the children can consistently receive healthy, home-cooked meals.

Muleete Well & Kitchen Project

Skip1 supports the Muleete community in south‑central Uganda, where they refurbished an existing well with a down‑hole submersible pump powered by solar panels to provide clean, sustainable drinking water.

In addition to water, Skip1 built a modern kitchen at the local school: it features four efficient tiled fire stoves, a double sink, outdoor taps, chimneys to vent smoke, and concrete flooring to create a safe, healthy environment for cooking. This project strengthens both nutrition and infrastructure - the solar‑powered well ensures ongoing access to water, while the kitchen enables the preparation of nourishing meals for children and community members.

Jinja Kitchen

Skip1 is building a new outreach house kitchen and dining area in Jinja, Uganda, designed to serve up to 160-200 children per month with three hot meals a day.

The kitchen will be equipped with an oven, refrigerator, food‑prep counters, storage bins, sinks, plumbing, and durable construction (tiled floors, block and cement) to support both daily meals and a community gathering space. This project not only improves food security for vulnerable children but also fosters a safe environment where families and children can heal, learn, and build healthier habits together.

Chilaca Kitchen

Skip1 supports a safe home and orphanage in Chilca, Peru (just outside Lima). This location has an orphanage that could house 32 kids, but it was completely vacant because it did not have the facilities to provide food for the children.

Skip1's goal was to fully equip the kitchen with the infrastructure and tools needed to serve nutritious meals regularly. By completing the kitchen, Skip1 provided these at-risk children with a stable, healthy environment where they can be nourished, educated, and supported in their growth.

Caballona Kitchen

This kitchen was completed and visited by our team in 2010, at a school that serves upwards of 200 children in the Dominican Republic.

When the Skip1 team went to visit, the school director was overjoyed that the students were able to have a steady food source for at least one meal, every single day.

Both Shelene and her son Blake were able to go on this trip. Check out this video to see the kitchen in action!
