Serving Together, Changing Lives.
Our group programs combine volunteer effort and local partnerships to deliver nourishing meals and dignity to people experiencing homelessness.
Ascencia Feeding Program
Skip1 has partnered with Ascencia, a Glendale-based nonprofit whose mission is "lifting people out of homelessness, one person, one family at a time."
Ascencia provides food support through its "Guest Chef Program", where volunteers prepare hot, nutritious meals for 40-45 shelter residents per service and help serve more than 50,000 meals annually. Their Access Center also houses a commercial kitchen and dining room with a pantry, allowing consistent meal service as well as food distribution. Additionally, Ascencia's street outreach teams distribute food, water, and other essentials directly to people living on the streets. Skip1 partners with Ascencia by providing the funding needed for many of these meals.
During the Holiday Season, many people living in homeless shelters do not get access to food and festivities that make this part of the year special. To remedy this, Shelene's family and Skip1 board members (Cameron/Bure Family, Weaver Family) have spent at least 5 of their Christmas mornings being Guest Chef's on Christmas morning!
Bayview Feeding Program
Skip1 supports the Project Bayview Feeding Program to provide nutritious meals to people experiencing homelessness in San Francisco's Bayview neighborhood.
This was a partnership started between the Bryan family and Pastor Francis Chan who has been serving this community for many years. Through this partnership, Skip1 helps feed a small but dedicated community of 16 individuals, offering consistent, healthy food - about $6.50 per person per day - so they can maintain strength and dignity as they work toward stability.
